So yesterday we drove east into the Judean Wilderness where we literally saw the topography change. This is where Jesus would have been tempted for forty days and nights. We saw many Bedouins living in tents and tending their sheep and goats. After driving for about 30-40 minutes we entered the baptismal site, Qaser El-Yahud which borders on Jordan.
Jeff shared from God's word and then he and Eliana proceeded down the slippery steps into the river. He prayed over her and then baptised her right there where John the Baptist would have baptised Jesus. Well almost….. we are not sure of the exact location in the river but nonetheless, it was definitely in the Jordan River. We are so proud of our daughter for making a declaration of her love and surrender of her Saviour.
If you have been picturing the River Jordan to look like a flowing brilliant blue then you are mistaken;) The water is rather murky and Eliana was somewhat hesitant to enter in at first.
Afterwards we headed to the Dead Sea which is a place the children have been excited to visit. It did not disappoint and ended up being far more fun than they anticipated. Once you get past the burn in any cuts you may have, it is actually enjoyable and quite amazing to find yourself unable to sink. There is definitely no splashing nor dunking allowed in this sea! The highlight of course also lies beneath your feet…. the dead sea mud which everyone who visits rubs all over their body and then takes photos of themselves. We were no exception! Fortunately there are showers right there on the beach which are helpful if you end up getting the salty water or the mud in your eyes or mouth.
Jeff and our three oldest floating in the Dead Sea.
Lydia and myself. Lydia was hilarious!
This was his imitation of mud on his face.
These three looked like sea monsters wading out of the water!
The Dead Sea experience is one they shall never forget and especially because we heard what sounded like a sonic boom right as we were leaving the beach and saw smoke rising in the distance. Another day to be so thankful for all His blessings.
