En Gedi is an oasis in the desert situated on the shore of the Dead Sea which is the lowest place on earth. From the road a trail of green trees leads up the mountain, beckoning to all weary travellers to come and take refreshment! As you begin to climb the mountain through the trees, the setting becomes more wild and natural. The most exciting part of the walk is when a beautiful waterfall and natural spa opens up before you. En Gedi has become a place for the Israeli's to spend their holidays, just as we would take a trip to the beach or lake. This week has been Sukkot and therefore a holiday for all the children. The roads have been busier and every place we visited, teeming with people. En Gedi was packed with families and young, single friends enjoying the water as they swam and waded through the streams. In spite of its busyness, it still felt very relaxing to meander along the windy paths and I wondered if King David had placed his feet on the very same path we now walked upon! It took about an hour to walk up to the waterfall and back again and no one complained because it was so pleasant.
The view of En Gedi from above.
Driving back to Jerusalem along the Dead Sea.
Date palms growing in the desert. What a fulfilment of prophecy!
'The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them,
And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose'
And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose'
Isaiah 35:1

I loved En Gedi.
