The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo

Sitting on 62 acres in the stunning terrain of southern Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo is Israel's biggest tourist attraction. It is situated near a huge man-made lake complete with waterfalls and side pools and spacious lawns to sit and have picnics. Our family has had the privilege of visiting many zoos around the world, China, Uganda, several in the USA and UK, but this one might just be our favourite now. There are over 170 diverse species of animals to be seen and this being the 'Biblical' zoo means that most of these were mentioned in the Bible!

It was a gorgeous day, sunny with a breeze and because of the Sukkot holidays, it was packed with families bringing their children for a special day out! There were Orthodox Jews everywhere! I have included several pictures of their families for those of you who not familiar with them. I did learn something about the women which I had never known before but it became evident to me when I saw them everywhere in the zoo yesterday. The women oftentimes shave their heads and wear wigs which they believe act as head coverings! Since being in Israel and seeing the women up close for the first time, I noticed that their hair is always so perfect! Well now I know why! I cannot imagine shaving off my blonde locks for artificial, itchy hair especially in the heat of Israel! You really do get the sense the more you see them that their eyes are blinded to the Truth!

I took a few pictures of their hair. You really would not know from a distance.

This lady is wearing a very stylish wig!

Lydia with one of her favourite animals!

It was the first time that Elijah really took an interest in all the animals.

Just beautiful!

The Biblical Zoo may not be on the list when you come over for a tour of Israel and the Biblical sites but if you have children, it really should be! We had such a wonderful day out!
