There is a memorial site in Latrun where visitors can view the Armoured Corps, (tanks) and even climb up into them to see what it would be like to be in the forces. For Isaac this is one place that he has been excited to visit because the Marines is one of the careers he is interested in. He has always been very adventurous so this would not surprise us if he did. For now, he had the opportunity to explore what life would be like for the soldiers who are trained to fight in the tanks. We watched a movie depicting what life is like for a soldier whose home becomes the tank.
This is also the location where God caused the sun to stand in the days of Joshua! It is always fun standing in a location which is mentioned in the Bible and thinking what that must have been like!
'Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
Till the people had revenge
Upon their enemies.'
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
Till the people had revenge
Upon their enemies.'
Joshua 10:12-13
The British Police building is still standing although there are scars of the tough battles fought over it throughout the War of Independence and the Six Day War. There are other parts of the museum to view; the Wall of Names, the Gate of Heroism and the Tower of Tears.
The Tank on Top of the Tower is the trademark of the site. In 1979 the American Sherman tank was hoisted upon the water tower serving the British police force.
Eliana found a tank in her favourite colour!
Today is Elijah's 3rd Birthday! We are heading out for the day to celebrate!
